Zi Xiu Tang Does It Work?

by Joe on June 10, 2010

Several people have asked me about the weight loss supplement  called Zi Xiu Tang. Let’s now review Zi Xiu Tang, its ingredients and see if its right for you.

What you are reading now is my first review of Zi Ziu Tang. I have also posted an updated review of Zi Xiu Tang. I suggest you read this review  first which covers the basic ingredients. Then read the updated review which covers all the other ingredients and how it really works.

Zi Xiu Tang Ingredients

Zi Xiu Tang is composed of:

Bee pollen. One of the websites that sells Zi Xiu Tang says bee pollen is “known to stimulate metabolism” , “eliminate cravings” and “reduce appetite” but when I searched the National Library of Medicine for “bee pollen and metabolism” and “bee pollen and weight loss” no studies showed up. I wasn’t surprised because I’ve never seen any study showing that bee pollen raises metabolic rate or promotes weight lose. Bee pollen appears to be the main ingredient in Zi Xiu Tang.

I did uncover a case report of kidney failure in somebody who was using a bee pollen supplement. Bee pollen may also cause severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis). Be sure you are not allergic to bee pollen before you try Zi Xiu Tang.

Chinese yam. This name is a little confusing because it also goes by the name “wild yam”. Other names include Rhizoma dioscoreae Dioscorea opposite.  when I searched for whether this ingredient might help weight loss, I actually did find something. A study does show that Rhizoma dioscoreae might help weight loss – in mice. Specifically mice that were fed a high fat diet.

No study in humans showing a similar effect could be located.

Barbarry wolfberry fruit. A more scientific name for this is Lycium barbarum. The root may have some blood pressure lowering effects but there seems to be no published peer reviewed proof that it helps weight loss. Ironically barabarry is mentioned on some websites to stimulate appetite.

Lotus seed. There is not enough published proof one or another to say what this stuff does.

Dietary fiber. Dietary fiber – like all fiber helps slow digestion and makes people feel full. Fiber also has no calories. These are the reasons why dietitians are always telling people to eat more fruits and vegetables (which have fiber). The problem is how much fiber does Zi Xiu Tang have? I was unable to find the answer on any of the Zi Xiu Tang websites I looked at.

Some Zi Xiu Tang websites claim that the product can detoxify the body. Detoxify is the new-age word for “laxative” Since Zi Xiu Tang has fiber, it makes sense that it would have a laxative effect. Since the supplement is said to contain no stimulants like caffeine,  fiber may be the mystery ingredient behind  those who say Zi Xiu Tang promotes weight loss.

Many websites say that no diet is needed when using Zi Xiu Tang. Still other Zi Xiu Tang websites say that people only need to take Zi Xiu Tang for a month after they reach their goal weight to maintain their weight loss.  Im skeptical of these statements also.

Zi Xiu Tang side effects

I have complied a list of ZXT side effects. check the side effects out and list any that I may have missed.

Conclusions.

People have told me that they have lost weight with in Zi Xiu Tang but based on the ingredients listed, I don’t see how it’s possible.   Honestly, I’m skeptical.

  • I’m skeptical because of the websites I see selling it. Some websites seem designed to get you to hurry up and buy it now before the price goes up.
  • I’m skeptical because some websites say things that are not based in fact (e.g. bee pollen stimulating metabolism).
  • I’m skeptical because I can’t discern any scientific reason why any of the ingredients (except fiber) would help weight loss.
  • I’m skeptical because I don’t see any peer reviewed proof on Zi Xiu Tang.
  • I’m skeptical because many websites say people don’t need to exercise while taking Zi Xiu Tang. This is unhealthy. Any diet that does not incorporate exercise runs the risk of promoting muscle loss. Some websites do advocate eating some extra protein (which can help preserve muscle during dieting) which I like, but leaving out exercise is disturbing.

While I think that fiber may be responsible for any weight loss seen  with Zi Xiu Tang supplements, I would like to see an independent laboratory test the product to see if it contains any additional ingredients that are not listed.

If you choose to try Zi Xiu Tang and buy over the internet be certain to ask about any “autoship” programs and see if you can opt out of this.

Here is my second Zi Xiu Tang review

Have you used Zi Xiu Tang? What are your thoughts on this stuff?

the zi xiu tang contains senna and senna is a laxative, after 7 days the body becomes addicted and can cause dehydration, senna does not allow normal body function to occur, taking can cause problems and if you stop the weight comes back faster then when it came off severe warning in taking zi xiu tang for long periods, because of fda watching them they have change formula several times, they now list senna on the box, consumers beware!additionally there many counterfits online, they cannot be trusted caution! 74cf

Joe July 25, 2010 at 7:30 am

Jackie senna was not listed on the product I reviewed but if you are correct then that explains Zi Xiu Tang weight loss claims. I am aware of senna and I agree if Zi Xiu Tang contains senna, it should be avoided.

Dana July 26, 2010 at 7:00 pm

I’ve taken Zi Xiu Tang before.

the pill works on a concept of traditional Chinese medicine which works to balance out the pH balance in the body. Most dieters and US and Western World eaters have an overly acidic body.

Joe July 27, 2010 at 8:46 am

Dana. Actually the human body is NOT acidic. Our bodies pH is slightly on the alkaline side, usually between 7.35 – 7.45. We have safeguards to prevent drastic decreases in pH. If we could not maintain pH in this range, a glass of orange juice would kills us!

I have asked Zi Xiu Tang distributors to give me a sample to try for a month as a test but so far there are no takers.

Cindy July 29, 2010 at 10:18 am

Hi Joe,
I bought a one month supply of these pills and I am very nervous/hesitant to take. Would you like my bottle to try? I will donate….

P.S. I am not a weirdo trying to give you unknown pills. I was actually in your supplement class in AAAI – Atlantic City this year and I was the one who approached you at the end of class to inquire about Zi Xiu Tang.

Jay August 11, 2010 at 10:27 pm

Hi,
I’ve taken this for 3 weeks and lost a total of 13 1/2 pounds. What I’ve found is that it totally curbs your appetite and by doing so, it helps you lose weight. I didn’t have any side effects except I was a little more thirsty than usual, but I drink a lot of water anyway, so I didn’t find that to be a problem.

I was always a person who was constipated, no matter how many fruit and veggies I eat. This has helped me to become more regular and that is a plus for me.

I have finished the rest of what I had and now am looking to purchased more.

Joe August 12, 2010 at 9:21 am

Jay. 13 1/2 lbs in 3 weeks is a lot and honestly I wonder how much of that is fat. Did you have your body fat tested before starting Zi Xiu Tang? Because you said Zi Xiu Tang helped your constipation makes me believe Zi Xiu Tang contains Senna or something like it. Senna can be dangerous if too much is used.

my August 18, 2010 at 9:00 pm

I tried this and after 2 weeks finally lost 5 pounds and then started to gain my weight back week later. Finally stopped taking it. I did not have any more energy, I was not having the effects of taking a laxative and I was still hungry ALL the time. My husband took it and lost 30 pounds in 2 months. He is still taking them but on average of every other day. He has stopped any additional weight loss and has not gained any back.

mary August 22, 2010 at 1:46 pm

My friend gave me a 12 pill try out sample the first time I took 2 pills it stopped me from sleeping. I finally fell asleep 13 hrs later, it also gave me chest pain.

Marcia August 23, 2010 at 11:52 am

I tried the sample pack from Floyd Nutrition because a friend of mine raved about this pill. She buys in bulk so I bought a bottle off her of her and I’ve been on it for about 3 1/2 weeks and, if anything, I’ve gained weight. It tells you not to change your diet, which I didn’t, and my clothes feel tighter. I don’t go to the bathroom regularly like I used to so I’m a little on the if-y side of this product. Another friend told me about another supplement, XM3, that helped her drop her baby weigh off fast. I’ve done some research and am skeptical about that one as well. Is there even such a thing as a “fat loss” pill anymore? They all seem to have the same effects…. they don’t work.

Joe August 24, 2010 at 9:38 am

Marcia, thanks for your words. Of all the supplements I have studied over the years, it is those marketed for weight loss that I am most disappointed in.

Marcia August 24, 2010 at 9:41 am

Are there any supplements that do work?

Joe August 25, 2010 at 3:10 pm

Despite the ads, there is no quick and easy (and safe) weight loss supplement. I just reviewed Glucosulin check out what its active ingredient is and you’ll see that simple answers are sometimes best.

Taina September 2, 2010 at 11:10 pm

Well I was on this weight loss pill..and let me tell you that it does work..and 6 other people I know loss huge amount of weight. I weighed 230lbs when i started on the pill and I’m done to 187 in 4 months. without exercise . I ate decent size meals and I drank a lot of water. So did everyone I know that has taken the pill. It’s the only pill I know that made me loose weight. Considering I’ve tried every single diet, exercise and diet pill out there.

Joe September 3, 2010 at 11:48 am

Taina Thanks for your comments. Remember that weight loss and fat loss are not the same. Since you did not exercise It’s likely that you lost some muscle and that’s not good. Please do find a good personal trainer who can show you how to exercise to stay healthy.

Paulette September 15, 2010 at 8:57 pm

I must say that each of you individuals have a right to your own expression and created experiences. I hold all of you….. your mind, body, and souls in perfect wholeness. May you hold one another in mind as the complete divine ones you are truly.

Gary September 15, 2010 at 9:02 pm

Joes’ opinion is bias because he is selling things on this website. So how do I know he is not saying this just to sell product. So try Zi Xiu Tang and have your own experience. No two people are alike.

Joe September 16, 2010 at 9:09 am

Gary I wanted to respond to your criticism . The only product I have on this website is my book, Nutritional Supplements What Works and Why (which is also at book stores and Amazon so people do not have to get it from me personally). That is it. The ads you see are not products I sell and I have no affiliation with those companies (for example, if an ad for Zi Xiu Tang appears on my website ,they don’t pay me to place that ad). I am only compensated if an ad is clicked. If no ads are clicked so be it. The ads help me maintain this site and provide unbiased information. I do appreciate your thoughts however and I hope my review was helpful to you.

Jeff September 20, 2010 at 2:53 pm

Thanks for the article! Just to throw in my experience: My wife’s client told her about these pills so she wanted to try them. I was skeptical at first because I’m used to working out to lose weight, but as I’m a father of 2 year old twin boys, I don’t always have the time to workout regularly, so I decided to try it. I started off at ~230lbs, lost 16 lbs so far after about 3.5 weeks. The biggest thing is that I’m not eating as much as I used to, since I feel full sooner, and I drink a lot more water now, instead of iced tea, since I’m more aware of it. It’s also made me more regular (along with drinking more water). I don’t notice any loss of muscle or strength at this point. My clothes are fitting better which is nice.

It’s nice to notice the loss in lbs. and it feels better to be lighter, but it still feels a little like “cheating” since I’m used to working out for weight loss. If anything though, I feel less sluggish and more motivated to start working out again, so I plan on trying to make a schedule in the AM to hit the gym. Now if only kids would stop this phase of waking up through the night… :)

Joe September 20, 2010 at 4:36 pm

Hi Jeff. If Zi Xiu Tang helps you achieve your goals and get healthier then that’s really a good thing. It sounds like Zi Xiu Tang was a stimulus to help you do other things (drink more water etc). If that’s the case and you experience no side effects, then that’s great. As for your kids getting up at night, I’m sure when they are in there teens, you won’t be able to get them out of bed – so it all evens out I guess :)

Brittni September 22, 2010 at 2:11 am

Well I have been taking Zi Xiu Tang pills for over a month. I’m in the middle of my second month and I have lost 15 pounds so far. 25 total since march (but the other 10 is from Atkins). The biggest thing that I notice that the pills do is decrease your appetite. In the beginning I had no appetite and had to make a schedule and force myself to eat something, even if it was small throughout the day. Now I do notice that I have a little more of an appetite but still get full very fast. So that’s the greatest benefit for me because the “craving” of food is completely gone and Im an emotional eater, meaning I eat more when Im sad or bored, ect ect…I do drink a lot of water, but I have always been good with drinking water, its actually all I drink, except for slushes and things of that nature. As far as making you go to the bathroom, I have always been kind of constipated and irregular, so i thought these would help with that.. but no.. I’m still irregular.. it does give me that laxative feeling every now and then.. but nothing serious..I was skeptical too before buying them. My mom told us about them and I did as much research as possible to get as much personal feedback as possible and I just decided to try for myself and I like them. I do wish there was more scientific information out there on them and the question that I’m the most curious about is why aren’t they approved by the FDA and what exactly occurs inside the body while taking them…those would be great to know.

Joe September 22, 2010 at 8:56 am

Thanks for your comments Brittni. Even thought this is not much scientific proof right now, your comments along with all the others is adding to our knowledge. My hope is that a doctor/scientist reads your comments and decides to test Zi Xiu Tang.

Slim Shady September 22, 2010 at 11:16 am

Joe – I cant help but get the feeling that you are a little more than skeptical after reading both of your reviews. I want to point out that just because there are no solid studies showing that any ingredients in these pills have weight loss properties, doesn’t necessarily mean that these pills don’t work. Studies don’t really mean jack, when you consider the fact that there are tons of studies showing that meat & dairy (animal products) are good for humans, when the reality is, EATING AND DRINKING ANIMAL DERIVED PROTIEN is the major cause of illnesses such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes. That is just to name a few! I could go on for days about this so let me stop now & get back the topic at hand…
Back to the pills & weight loss. I myself have lost 18lbs in 2 months… I have tried countless ways to take this weight off over the last 5 years and nothing has worked until now. There is no doubt in my mind that something, and I don’t claim to know what, but something in these pills works wonders at suppressing the appetite! The bottom line is that I lost weight because I am eating much less… Not because I am going potty more often. In fact, I don’t use the bathroom that much more than I had prior to taking these pills…
In response to your claim that the weight loss is caused by the laxative effects of many of the ingredients in these pills, I would like to point out that all laxatives do is cause the body to lose fluid! While this may show some weight loss on the scale, it doesn’t explain why or how I lost 5″ on my waistline… Or for that matter, why the cellulite dents have virtually disappeared from my ass… The weight that I’ve lost has definitely been in the form of fat, not water…
And just so we are clear – I have at least 10 friends who have also have had the same experience as I have on these pills..

Joe September 22, 2010 at 11:48 am

I appreciate your comments. Just a few thoughts on what you said

I am always skeptical when I can’t find a scientific/logical reason for why people say a product works like this. That said, I’m intrigued with the claims coming from people who have used the product.

I call on the medical community to test zi xiu tang under laboratory conditions – and to test the product to see if it contains anything that is not listed on the label.

I’m glad you have lost weight on zi xiu tang but you cannot be sure the weight you lost was not at least some water unless you measure it scientifically. Some of it probably was water at least in the beginning. As for now Its hard to say unless you get your body fat done using hydrostatic weighing or a Bod Pod.

Laxatives can cause fluid loss however they may also lead to some weight loss if they “pushed” food through the digestive track faster. This would limit nutrient absorption and hence calories. I’m not saying that this is what is happening with zi xiu tang but is something to consider.

What you said about animal protein being the “major cause” of heart disease, cancer and diabetes is not true. While large consumption of red meat can contributes to heart disease, lack of exercise and eating too many calories is the main cause of many of these conditions along with smoking in some instances.

DJ September 28, 2010 at 7:17 pm

I started taking these pills a week ago. Immediately I experienced a laxative effect and severe dry mouth. A week into taking them, I was not able to sleep, had a high heart rate, and was feeling extremely anxious. I lost about 3-4 lbs of water weight. I tried to speak to someone regarding these symptoms. The only rational explanation is that it was mixing with my oral contraceptive. I do not think the pills did anything but curb my appetite, and make me go to the bathroom. I am doubting them now.

Joe September 28, 2010 at 7:27 pm

DJ. I appreciate you taking the time to list your symptoms. I know they will benefit others. If you still experience those symptoms I would not take them anymore. The high heart rate and anxious feelings especially concern me. I’d speak to your doctor before using Zi Xiu Tang again.

valerie October 1, 2010 at 9:05 pm

Hey everyone. I’ve been taking these pills since the beginning of June and, right now, I’m nearing the end of my second bottle. I’ve always been the type who has tried everything before ZXT and nothing has been able to curb the appetite that I had. A bottle usually lasts me a while because, after a month in, I would skip days because I found that they worked better. I go to the bathroom more regularly and I drink tons of water. I also learned to cut down on coffee drinks because the pills gave me enough energy through the day. I initially began with 1 pill/day the first week so I could allow my body to get used to the pills. Then I switched to 2/day and didn’t notice any side effects.

D.C. October 5, 2010 at 12:23 pm

I’m sorry that a lot of ya’ll had trouble!

but i’ll be honest, i am so glad i started these pills, and i am in my second bottle, but i have absolutely no idea why so many are having trouble with their energy! I feel great!

I am usually a very skeptical person by nature, so when my friend told me abou these pills that her sister had take and lost all this weight, i was like: all water weight, definitely all water weight. but i figured what the heck. the websit looked like a typical scamming website, but i fought the urge to be negative about it and bought them anyways.

You do drop the weight pretty quickly, but I noticed that it wasn’t just coming from my mid section, like most water pills do, but it was also coming from under my neck, my upper back, and shoulders (and my butt, which was really the only thing i didn’t care much to lose…). It probably helps though that I have never had an appetite suppressant like this. it’s really amazing! for the first week and a half i had to actually force myself to eat… and i know that sounds all “woe is me i had to eat!”, but it WAS difficult, because i was hungry–starving at times!– and absolutely nothing seemed appetizing to me, whiiiiiiich… is a new feeling for this tummy.

I’m fairly average in size… like if you saw me on the street eating a doughnut, you wouldn’t say “oooo… put it down… Put. it. down.” but i have always been softer around the edges. like if scarlett johansen put on a few lb’s. So i haven’t had some extreme weight loss story, but this stuff just feels good.

(And for those ladies out there who have those days of “oh-my-good-please-someone-pop-me… if-chris-farley-and-a-balloon-had-a-baby-it-would-be-me…”, i haven’t felt even close to that feeling since i started these things, no matter how much sodium i packed in during that “time”.)

on a down note: i drink over a gallon of water a day though, and i still get thirsty pretty often. But i was doing that before i took the pills. A little extra water really can’t hurt.

My friend takes these, and she is really petite, and she was having some major issues– the fatique, the headaches– just general crappiness, but she down graded to just one a day instead of the two, and it works the same for her as the two do for me. she was neglecting water in the beginning, also.

i would recommend this to anyone, but be smart about it: if you are really petite, take one instead of two! and DRINK DRINK DRINK that water like it is going out of style!

Joe October 5, 2010 at 12:36 pm

DC. Thank you for taking the time to tell us your story. Yes a little extra water can’t hurt but I would add that too much water actually can hurt. The condition is called hyponatremia (also called water intoxication) and it can be very dangerous. People can die from hyponatremia. While it’s usually athletes who get it from drinking too much, I know of 2 people (who were not athletes) who did it too themselves by just drinking water like it was going out of style. Just wanted to toss that in for people who read these comments.

Jess October 10, 2010 at 1:11 am

I have been taking these pills for about three weeks and I so far love them because I always had problems going to the bathroom but now I go everyday with no problem. The only thing I don’t like is that I have lost my appetite for sweets which I love so much. Whenever I get something I really want for some strange reason I cannot eat any sweets. The next thing I don’t like is that I forget to eat and you must eat with these pills and eat a lot of protein. The first day I took it I could not sleep for 24 hrs which sucked but after a few days my body adjusted. When I first started I was 160lbs I have not weighed myself yet. My stomach has reduced alot so I will see.

Anne Petersen October 12, 2010 at 2:38 pm

I have just taken my first pill today, I am more just curious about the appetite suppressant portion, I am in a very healthy weight range but it is always interesting to see what is out there. Will report back in a week.

Joe October 12, 2010 at 7:33 pm

Thanks Anne. Will be interested to hear your thoughts :)

IM October 13, 2010 at 10:40 am

I would like to try this but I have read comments about some pills being a scam. Can anybody tell me where I could buy the real pills?

Joe October 13, 2010 at 11:15 am

IM. The packaging of the product concerns me (it just does not look good). check out my other Zi Xiu Tang review for the pictures I took of the product I have.

Greg October 13, 2010 at 6:05 pm

I just bought these pills and from what i see with my own eyes is that it works. My friends take them and they look great. gonna give it a shot So I am willing to try these out , I tried tons of exercise eating healthy , different supplements and they were all junk so why not give this a shot, considering I saw with my own eyes my friends results. I will post back in a month and let ya know how much I lost.

Joe October 13, 2010 at 6:47 pm

Greg. I hope you dont think exercise is Junk…

Greg October 16, 2010 at 11:37 am

No Joe Not at all , i exercise but i don’t have a steady routine ,with my work schedule , kids ect.. but i i do try to get exercise 3 days a week i would like to do more but for now this is how it goes. I’m on day 4 now and i feel no side effects , i feel great actually alot of energy and yes it does curve your appetite but i still make sure i eat but noticed I am eating alot less so not giving up on them , gonna finsih up my month and see what happens/

Emelia October 18, 2010 at 10:52 am

Hello,
I take one of these pills a day. I started two weeks ago and have lost 3 pounds. However I do exercise at least twice a week for about 30 mins. These pills do make me very thirsty so I drink a lot of water. I have not been able to find anything else that works. But I believe the key is to still exercise to maintain muscle mass.
Good luck everyone,
Emelia

Jo Ann October 19, 2010 at 7:06 pm

I do not know if this product works or not but the company is a liar. They promise they will not charge your credit card but 11.80 and when you get the product and if you use the product they charge you 49.98 per bottle in addition to the 11.80 as they say was Trail Offer…Paying this much for a bunch of vitamins is not worth it…I am sending this crap back…

JR October 21, 2010 at 1:04 am

I have been taking this product for roughly 2 months and have lost around 12 pounds (I am judging this strictly on how my clothes are fitting – considering I have dropped around 1 1/2 sizes). At present I know about 10 others taking it as well, all having various feedback. I noticed a difference the first day. My hunger had diminished and as others had mentioned, I had to force myself to eat. I did not experience the laxative effect, but I believe this is because I do not tend to eat greasy and unhealthy foods. I did not alter my lifestyle, like what was suggested by the manufacturer.

How my body changed and felt while taking this product -
-a lot more energy
-eating about 1/3 amount of normal (per meal)
-dry mouth (even though drinking a lot of water)
-sweating a lot easier
-being hotter than normal
-curbing hunger for around a 10-12 hour period (I did tend to get hungry at night, which was always an issue for me)
-not desiring sweets (only in the first month or so)
-indecision for meals
-helped keeping me from getting sick or having bad allergies.

If you are normally a coffee drinker I would suggest to kick the habit if you are going to be taking this product. You will be THREW THE ROOF with energy that it can be a little crazy. Although you don’t get “the shakes” or experience any loopy/odd behavior like with other “diet pills” of the past.

If you frequently drink alcoholic beverages I would be careful as well. Alcohol dehydrates you, and this product seems to as well (I assume this from the extreme dry mouth you get). Make sure you are drinking AT LEAST two liters a day, and if you are planning on (heavily) drinking that day to drink more water. DRINKING ENOUGH WATER IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ACCOMPANIMENT WHEN TAKING THIS.

I noticed that there has been different effects for the people I know taking it. Try it for a week or two, if it works – great. If you aren’t feeling a positive change – stop. There’s not hurt in trying (in my opinion). I have thoroughly enjoyed taking this product and plan to stop by the end of the year as I am hoping to reach my goal by then.

Michelle October 21, 2010 at 2:19 pm

Hello Joe, i started my pills today 10/21/10 and it has already curbed my appetite and it has also given me a dry mouth but its okay because it is a motivator for me to drink water which is something i rarely do. I’ve never been the one to get thirsty even after eating which is something that has bothered me for some time but i always contributed that factor to my mother always telling me at dinner time ” Nothing to drink till you are done with your meal”.. Anyways i am grateful for your web-site.. a quick description I’m 38 a mother of a 22 14 & 12 year old.. I’m not conceited but i feel that i look good for my age with the exception of my big gut and the tire looking thing on my sides i don’t like how it looks nor how it feels :( I weigh in at 167 lbs and it is all in my stomach and i have the side rolls aka “love handles”. I am by nature very energetic and out-going but lately I’ve been hiding under over-sized t-shirts.. I hope that with these pills i can achieve some weight loss in my mid-section.. to everyone who is taking these pills “I wish you luck and Success”. I will check back in next week with an update on my weight..

Joe October 22, 2010 at 9:19 am

Thanks for the update Michelle. The good news is that you are taking steps to improve your health. The research finds that weight loss is a personal thing and if they (along with drinking more water and other healthy habits) works for you, then that is what is most important :)

Michelle 2 October 25, 2010 at 10:41 am

Hi Joe – I am glad that I found this website before I place my order. I gained almost 20lbs this summer due to some medical related reason. I cannot wait to get rid of the fat! I need Zi Xiu Tang to curb my appetite. My co-worker told me about this and she has been taking it over 6(?) months. It works great on her and her sister. I also know some other people at work recently started to take it and they look in better shape as I can see.

However, I do have some concerns. As you said, losing a lot of weight in a short period sounds fishy. It might be very easy for people to gain it back once they stop taking it. When I had lunch with my co-worker, she only ate very tiny food. She said the supplements made her feel full. It was scary to watch an adult only has so little food to maintain her daily activities(don’t even think about exercises)! Also, I am not sure if, like most weight losing pills, it works better on those who had a big base, i.e., really over-weighted. I don’t know how it will work on people like me that are slightly over-weighted.

Joe October 25, 2010 at 12:52 pm

Thanks for your comments Michelle and I am glad I was able to help you :)

Common Sense October 29, 2010 at 10:53 am

Not the for nothing but the FDA is NOT the holy grail of what is or what is not best for us. The FDA discourages herbs but promotes medicine..aka chemicals, so they are not a fan of herbs or anything healthy. Also, look at the hormone induced meats we are allowed to eat and other various harmful things that are allowed. I say do what you please but at your own risk, as there are risks involved in everything. I mean when it comes down to lettuce being recalled because of bacteria, who is really to say what is or what is not safe for us…I mean really. If these pills give people energy then great, use it to your advance to start an exercise regime and ween yourself off of the pill aka laxative as some call it. If it stops your craving for fast food or anything unhealthy, good, adopt a new style of eating and ween yourself off the pill. Use it to jump start a new lifestyle perhaps only take the pills for a month or too just in case there are hidden ingredients that may be harmful later in life.

I just want to know if anyone taking the pill has had any headaches while taking this pill.

Joe October 30, 2010 at 6:34 am

M&M yes some have said they had headaches with Zi Xiu Tang. if you read through the comments here and my other review “Zi Xiu Tang Revealed” you will see what they said. if they are intense and frequent stop taking Zi Xiu Tang and see your doctor today.

BIRD November 4, 2010 at 1:38 pm

I have taken ZXT for 6 wks and lost 17 lbs. I also walk on treadmill 2-3 times a wk. The pills have really helped curb my appitite! Before I would overeat and now I have had days when I had to force myself to eat, the desiree just wasnt there. I have had very dry mouth and sweat very easy. Also had laxative effect for 1st 2 wks. It is working for me and 3 other people I know that are taking it. I am a nurse and I am still curious to know the science behind it. I do plan to take it one more month. Keep us updated on what you find Joe.

Joe November 4, 2010 at 4:37 pm

Bird I just wrote back to Cathy who left a message on my other zi xiu tang review that she felt “addicted” to the pill. even after 6 weeks of not taking it, she feels like she still has a need for it. Have you or anyone else reading this felt this?

As for the science of zi xiu tang, nothing in the ingredients appears to have any weight loss effect. Honestly I would like to get this stuff in a mass spectrometer to see if anything else is in it.

Nicole November 4, 2010 at 11:20 pm

I took Zi Xui Tang for one week after feeling a lot of pressure from friends who were taking it and doing really well. I have been eating healthy and working out and had lost ten pounds in a month before the pill and was upset that girls who were doing nothing were losing more than me. The entire week I took it I had increased heart rate, dizziness and NO appetite. People think this is good but its not. Your body needs fuels and these pills make your body reject all food you take in. I ended up in the hospital because my heart felt like it was beating out of my chest. The doctor told me that my pulse was 110 at resting when it should be more like 8 for 22 year old. I am in great physical health and only have like 10lbs more to lose. The doctor said people taking these pills are basically self inducing a heart attack or stroke. So I immediately stopped taking them, my life is worth more to me than 10lbs. Please everyone be careful. These are not FDA approved so no one truly knows what is in these pills. If you have something to live for then put in the hard work and do it naturally.

Joe November 5, 2010 at 8:54 am

Hi Nicole, you mean your doctor said your pulse should have been 80bpm (instead of 8). normal resting heart rate for healthy people can range from 60 beats per min to 100 beats per min. I don’t see many healthy people who have resting heart rates close to 100 so what you said would concern me also.

L November 30, 2010 at 12:34 am

I’ve been taking the pills for a little over a month and have lost 12 pounds, 2 inches on my waist, and about a half inch practically everywhere else. The best thing about them for me is the fact that it not only suppresses my appetite, it takes away the desire to eat unhealthy foods. I used to over-eat. I loved eating just because the food tasted good and never had the willpower to stay on a diet because I missed my favorites. Now, I rarely crave those fatty foods and when I do, I’m not hungry enough to eat a large amount.
These pills have amazed me. I was skeptical going into it like everyone else, but I have been pleasantly surprised. I understand that we can’t know for sure what’s in it, but the blessing of finally having control over what I eat overshadows the doubts. Call it irresponsible and reckless if you want, but I’m finally losing weight and I’m happy about that.
It definitely does NOT work for everyone. My mother and I started the pills at the same time, and her results were much smaller than my own. I don’t want people to swear off even trying them because they’re scared of the side effects. The occasional digestional upsets are worth it in the end.
I’m continuing my use for a while longer to reach my goal. I’ll update if anything goes wrong or keeps going right :)

Michelle November 30, 2010 at 3:57 pm

I started my first pills on 10/27/10. I lost 10lbs in the first 10days but after that I only lost another 3-4lbs in the next 3+ weeks. So now I’ve lost 13-14lbs in total. I didn’t measure my waist before I started but I can tell I lost at least 1 size by wearing my old pants/shirts. Compared with others I am kind of disappointed…even though I know it is not bad.

On my first day I felt a little bit jittery about 1hr after I took the pills and it lasted for about 20mins and never happened again. I never had diarrhea. There were several days that I had #2 twice a day, though. The first 3 weeks I felt very thirsty but it is getting better recently. It definitely curbs my appetite but sometimes I still want sweets. To my surprise that it didn’t impact my daily activities especially my work out. I was on diet several times before and every time I felt weak when I went swimming. However, when I take Zi Xiu Tang, I still have enough energy to swim same distance, if not longer, as if I were not on diet.

Now I am on the 2nd bottle and will see how things go.

rina December 2, 2010 at 5:31 pm

After reading many reviews on Zi Xiu Tang I decided to give it a try because I was pretty desperate to shed off some pounds and inches. I’ve gained about 10-15 pounds since this time last year and my clothes were getting tighter. So I ordered a bottle to try out. I came back from Thanksgiving to find the package in the mail. When I got the package I started worrying that it may be fake, but after watching a you tube video on the difference between authentic and fake packaging, smelling, and entering the code, I’m pretty certain its the real deal.

This is only my 4th day, but I thought I would share some of my experience and progress. I have always drank lots of water, but the first day the dry mouth and thirst kicked in and I’ve been drinking LOTS of water. I knew about the appetite suppressant and I have never taken anything that suppresses hunger so all I can say about these is I never feel hungry. It’s both a good thing and bad because I use to eat so much crap just because I had nothing to do or felt like it, but now I have to make sure I eat so I don’t feel nauseous and I’ve been eating a lot less. I’ve been keeping track of everything I eat. At first I was intimidated about bathroom issues I was worried it was going to be horrible runs. I have very regular bowel movements, once a day around the same time, but since taking these pills the effects on me were almost instant. It is very loose now and I use the bathroom about 2 times a day now. Since starting these pills, I had the most restless sleep. Last night I didn’t sleep until 6:30 and got up at 10 but I don’t feel tired. The other two nights I slept around 3 but woke up every 2 hours or so. This morning I was feeling pretty nauseous, and I’m pretty sure its because I wasn’t eating enough and I felt better after getting some food in.

I also take these with a multivitamin. I don’t have a scale or anything to measure myself in right now. The last time I checked my weight was at home over Thanksgiving break, I’ll keep that number private but will update with total weight lost if any the next time I have a chance to weigh myself. For now I’m relying on the fitting of my clothes and overall if I felt I lost inches. It has only been 4 days so I’ll check back in a week or so and see how it goes.

Joe December 20, 2010 at 12:17 pm

Several people have asked me if I would write a review of hawthorn which is one of the ingredients in zi xiu tang. Here is the link:

I hope it helps :)

Kay Lewis January 4, 2011 at 5:30 pm

I am currently on these pills and I will definitely say they work. I have lost 10 pounds in about 2 weeks. A friend of mine lost 40 pounds in 3 months. Only thing is, some days they seem to work better than other days.

Joe January 4, 2011 at 9:32 pm

Kay. Thanks for your comment. I wonder if one zxt pill may differ from others in terms of what is inside. that’s the only thing I can think of as to why some days it works better than others.

Bettina January 13, 2011 at 1:21 pm

I have been on these capsules for 4 months and in that time lost 25 pounds. I haven’t had any change in bowel movements, but it definitely works as an appetite suppressant. I think that I actually crave sweet things more, but I don’t eat as much of anything. I was wondering if anyone else has had trouble with headaches though. I have always had trouble with migraines, but I feel like they have increased and intensified since I have been using this, but I also have added some stress to my life around the same time so it is hard to tell what is making them worse. I also have tension headaches more often. I have taken breaks to see if I felt any different off the capsules, but I didn’t notice changes in my headaches. Thoughts?

Joe January 13, 2011 at 1:34 pm

Bettina
hard to say. how long did you stop taking zxt? If zxt was causing your headaches then it may take several days or a week before you felt better. Hawthorn can affect the way the heart pumps and that may be related to the headaches but I am guessing on this.
Anyone else have ideas?

Bettina January 13, 2011 at 1:56 pm

After reading more reviews I have more to say. :) I am going to continue taking the pills for a while and monitor my weight loss and body fat loss (I need a new scale anyway and I am concerned about the muscle/water loss issue).

I also don’t feel like taking these pills is doing nothing. I am a chronic over eater and it helps me curb those bad habits to some degree, but I have also been making healthier choices.

I was a thin and healthy person until I had 3 children and stayed home full-time with them. I started having really bad eating patterns. I was so busy with the kids during the day that I didn’t make time for myself to eat the healthier homemade food I would prefer. I would grab a quick handful of fishy crackers here and there and not take time to sit and eat a meal until late in the evening and by that point I would eat too much because I was ravenous and eating far too fast. This has helped with modifying my behavior, but I don’t think it would work if I just ate whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. I have a friend who takes it as well and initially she lost weight, but now it has stopped because she is still eating crap. I think it is a tool to help modify your behavior, but not a magic pill. It seems to me like a nudge in the right direction. If I overeat I feel unpleasantly full, but I think I felt that way before when I ate too fast.

I will admit that it in the first day or so I felt like I had a bit of nervous energy. I actually felt like getting out and using my body and exercising then rather than sitting on my bum inside. I don’t think that nervous feeling lasted for more than a day or two.

I have been to a doctor many times since starting the capsules and I have never had high blood pressure or heart rate (both of those are issues for my parents). I would never recommend that someone else take them because I can’t tell them they are absolutely safe. I am just sharing my experience not saying yours will be the same.

I will try and re-post in a month with some info on the body fat issue.

Bettina January 13, 2011 at 2:03 pm

I stopped initially because I had an ugly sinus infection and was on some pretty strong antibiotics and I wanted to be sure that I wasn’t on anything that would affect the way my body processed or absorbed them. I stayed off the Zi Xiu Tang for a month. I didn’t gain weight in that period, but I didn’t lose any either. I am a total light weight when it comes to medicine, alcohol, caffeine… anything stronger than Tylenol or chocolate really. ;)

I had wondered if the headaches might be caused by dehydration. I do drink lots of water and always have, but if this is somehow making me shed water…

Joe January 13, 2011 at 4:31 pm

Thanks Bettina. Ill look forward to reading your updates. Perhaps dehydration was a cause of the headaches. It’s hard to say one way or the other.

Speedy January 21, 2011 at 2:46 pm

Currently, I am doing research on getting these Zi Xiu Tang capsules tested and the cost. Just to prove that they unsafe. I have taken them for about a week. But, yesterday was my last day until I can get them tested for what is REALLY in them.

After the first few days, I called my girlfriend and told her that we have been popping pills long enough for weight loss to know that it is something else in them besides bee pollen. At first I didn’t even care until I started doing research on diet pills imported from China, the woman that got arrested facing 243 years and the deaths.

The results are amazing for all of the people that I know that have used them and that are using them. People all around me are dropping weight fast. I only purchased them because I had an accident and can not exercise for the next eight weeks. Of course, I didn’t want to gain any of the weight that I lost by walking for one hour each day.

Haven’t lost a lot of pounds by walking, but a lot of inches and 2 dress sizes. On a few occasions, I went to the weight-loss clinic and received a prescription pill for weight loss. Although they were effective, it just cost too much. At least with the prescription you know how much of what you are taking.

I’m am having the exact same side effects with Zi Xiu Tang. Excessive thirst, not able to stay focused, blurred vision when at work on the computer for long periods of time, daily headaches and a feeling of being a little “high”.

Just about everybody I have talked to are justifying the side effects with the famous “detox” and the “high” with the B vitamins. Yes, they do have something in them that aids you to pass a lot stool. However, you can’t tell me that there isn’t something else in them that’s not listed in the ingredients.

Joe, thank you for sharing the information about the diet pills from China. Although Zi Xiu Tang are not specifically listed, I wouldn’t be surprised that in the future after something terrible has happen that we will be reading about the dangerous complications that women are having from taking zxt pills. I’m just not willing to compromise that there may be unregulated amounts of some unnatural substance that my cause complications in the future. Reading about the women that dead from liver failure is enough for me.

Joe January 21, 2011 at 3:05 pm

Speedy, thank you for your comments. I likewise have been trying to get access to a mass spectrometer to determine what is in zi xiu tang. I have had no luck finding anyone to help me. If you have any luck I would be interested in knowing what you discovered.

Maria January 25, 2011 at 1:02 pm

Hello Joe,

I recently purchased zi xiu tang on Amazon.com (and got a real bottle thanks to my reading the seller’s reviews / checking online). When I’d made this purchase, it was approximately five minutes BEFORE I found your site, and I immediately got worried about it. But then, with the mixed reviews, I figured while it may be a bit hazardous to my health, I’ve done other things in the past which would be considered hazardous as well. So I bit the bullet, and decided to try it, if only for a few days.

Well…

The first few days were kind of horrible (note, I say ‘kind of’). I had to make sure I was around a toilet every few hours, my guts were all in a jumble, I felt that if I’d been caught without a toilet – I would have been screwed. Yet… I wasn’t craving sweets like I normally do, and I wasn’t as hungry as I normally was. I wrote it off at first at just being a ‘gut reaction’ and the way it worked, was that it 1) took everything out of your body it could (there’s a good 4-5 lbs right there everyone, don’t forget that. When you get food poisoning, it’s not just cause you can’t eat anything, it’s cause you LOSE everything too).

Yet, I cooked what I call a medium dinner (thick spaghetti sauce and noodles, salad, and cucumber slices), and ate a small / regular sized portion of it all. I almost went without cooking, but having a hungry husband drove me into the kitchen, and that said husband said I had to eat as well – so I did.

I didn’t experience headaches at first like I have in the past with chemically additive diet pills (I’m a chronic migraine sufferer), yet I’ve experienced about two migraines since I started (about a week and a half now) which is somewhat normal. Surprisingly, I found that if I woke with a headache (a potential start to a migraine), and popped an Excedrin AND a zi xiu tang, my headache would go away within an hour… so I feel that any headaches experienced with this product are probably related to caffeine.

I’ve been drinking tons of water, my appetite is significantly down, and I finally have TONS more energy. As a bonus, my pants DO fit looser – yet I cannot make claims that this drug is an AMAZING fat loss drug, because I don’t own a scale. All I can say is that I feel much better overall (even with the first days causing me to rush to the bathroom) but no MAJOR body changes.

The main reason I wanted to take this drug was for the energy – as a full time student / part time worker / full time housewife, I’ve been growing excessively tired early on in the day. I’d want to work out, but wouldn’t have the energy. I’d want to clean, or cook, or have sex, but again… no energy.

This drug has helped boost my energy, boost my sex drive, decrease my appetite, and overall helped me feel much better about myself.

I know that everyone reacts differently to things, especially these kind of stimulants – I DEFINITELY do NOT recommend anyone sensitive to caffeine to take these, as it definitely could do more harm than good.

Yet as a long time user of caffeine (to help with migraines – it increases blood circulation via heartbeat and additionally causes blood vessels to constrict when vascular pulsating occurs), I’ve found it’s a nice addition to my life. I believe this is also why I haven’t had many problems sleeping – though I’m noticing now that I go to bed later, and get up at the same time, without experiencing being tired throughout the day.

With this new found energy, I plan to start my exercise regimen shortly, and feel that xi ziu tang will help me stick to that plan by continuing to suppress my appetite / keep my energy up.

If anything changes – positive or negative – I’ll be sure to update here and let you and your readers know about it.

I’m glad you have this website up for people to better educate themselves about the drug and be aware of what could potentially happen / what to look out for.

Joe January 25, 2011 at 9:06 pm

Hi Maria, thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences with zi xiu tang. I know everybody will be benefiting from you taking the time to write :)

Michelle January 26, 2011 at 10:14 am

Ok, I am back. My 3rd bottle is almost empty but I didn’t lose any more weight since last time I reported here. That means besides losing 13lbs in the first 3 weeks, I didn’t make any more progress in the following 2 months. And I am not the only one.

A friend at work has same experience. Well, on the other hand, it could’ve been due to the holiday season and I am happy I didn’t gain much with all those food. When I started the 3rd bottle, I can no longer feel the effect as I did before. In another words, zxt doesn’t work on me any more. The good thing is I never had bad/strong bowel movements or headache as some people did.

Maria January 26, 2011 at 10:59 am

Everyone has been talking about this pill and ordering like crazy. I have heard nothing but good testimonies thus far. Does anyone know how long this drug have been out? I have a cousin who lost 35 lbs since August. A friend who has lost 30 lbs since August and another person I know who lost 20 lbs in 3 months. I decided to try it because I need to get this baby gut fixed and after 2 days of taking it my stomach is down already. I am pretty desperate because nothing has seemed to work. Even exercising I was losing extremely slow if at all.

I plan to only take it for 4 months to get to a good weight and stop. I am always skeptical of meds and really I am skeptical of this one because it sounds too good to be true. No exercise, or eating right? That sounds unhealthy, but like I said I plan to stop after a few months.

My stools have been very loose, so maybe the weight loss is due to the fact that it is flushing me out, which I dont care, I need that. My appetite is lower too.

I really dont know right now and I am loving it. It does work though but I just hate to think that there are long term effects. But maybe the long term effects are only if you take it for a long long period of time. I just dont want to hear about something bad happening to someone.

So any research that anyone finds publish it because I really want to know.

Joe January 26, 2011 at 11:17 am

Michelle, remember as we lose weight our metabolism decreases. metabolism is the speed we burn calories. As you lose weight, it slows down, making it harder to lose weight. Just wanted to mention that this happens with any weight loss program.

Joe January 26, 2011 at 11:24 am

Hi Maria, As far as I can tell there is no published scientific studies on the short term or long term effects of zi xiu tang.

It also appears to me that my reviews of zi xiu tang may be the only unbiased, science based reviews on the web. I may be wrong but if they are out there I have yet to find them. that is sad considering how many people are taking this stuff.

Remember that zi xiu tang is not a drug or medication. It is a supplement. The laws for supplements are different than for drugs. For more info read the “Supplement Questions” page at the top.

Trevia January 26, 2011 at 3:29 pm

I started ZXT on 01/26/11. I haven’t felt any different than I did before I started taking them as far as my energy level, appetite, or bathroom breaks are concern. I will post again after a week of taking the pills.

Tami January 30, 2011 at 5:27 pm

I’ve found the zxt pills to work for the first six weeks with all the side affects mentioned and about a 10lb wt lose. Not so anymore. I still take the pills, but with no side effects or further wt lose. I’ve even stopped for a few weeks hoping I could jump start my system. No such luck. What’s up with that? Help! I need to know why these pills don’t work for me anymore and if there is something I can do to get them to work like they did initially.

Joe January 31, 2011 at 12:56 pm

Tami. As you get closer to the weight your body feels comfortable at its harder to lose weight. Remember as you lose weight your metabolic rate decreases also which reduces the number of calories you burn. Not sure if you are exercising but this should help you burn more calories – as well as hold on to your muscle tissue (remember just dieting results in a great loss of muscle tissue which does not return once its lost)

Autumn January 31, 2011 at 2:34 pm

I am interested in purchasing ZXT pills, but I was wondering if it is bad for someone with high cholesterol?

Joe January 31, 2011 at 3:32 pm

Hi Autumn, while I dont know anything about you, I can say that I don’t know how zi xiu tang effects cholesterol. If you have heart problems see your doctor before using this zxt. zxt has hawthorn which can effect how your heart pumps.

Tammy January 31, 2011 at 4:15 pm

I started taking the pills six weeks ago. I started off at 255 pounds and now I am 221. I have tried every diet you can imagine with little to no success. It cleans you out and you go to the restroom a lot in week two and three; then it slows down to one or two bowel movements a day. All of my clothes are falling off and my rolls are disappearing. I used to eat chocolate every day, now I can’t stand the smell of it. I have to remind my self to eat every few hours; I don’t get hungry. You will have dry month the first few weeks; but that will end around week four. I strongly recommend it.

maggie January 31, 2011 at 7:14 pm

Hi, I start with zixutang about a month ago at the beginning not different only experience dry mouth but 4 days ago I notice that I go to bathroom 3 or more times with loose stools. my weight went I start was 210 now is 200.

Jina February 2, 2011 at 8:48 pm

In two months I lost 20 pounds of fat. And if it’s not working for you, make sure your getting the real stuff and make sure you check the security label on the bottle. Everyone I know who uses it has lost at least 20 pounds. I know a guy who lost 60!

Joe February 2, 2011 at 9:00 pm

Jina, how did you have your body fat tested? Unless it was tested before and two months after you started zxt you can’t be sure that the 20 pounds was all fat.

Juliet February 4, 2011 at 12:03 am

Hi Joe,

I am a herbalist and I’ve treated several people with hawthorn. Hawthorn lowers blood cholesterol, clears blood vessels, and strengthens the heart. I’ve given it to a patient of mine with hypertension with palpitations. She loves it because it calms her heart. Hawthorn is also a blood thinner, so people who are bleeders like me, should not take it that much because it makes me bleed more when I have some minor surgery, just like cantaloupes, which are blood thinners too.

My sister is now on her 2nd day of ZXT pill so is my brother. So far no palpitations, no headaches yet. Just dry mouth and lips. My brother’s BP actually went down in an hour of taking it. He is on the high BP side. I’ve been reading the comments here, and just cannot help but defend hawthorn. It is a very good herb and in fact the Chinese have a candy or snack made with it called Haw flakes. I give it to my 70 year old mom to lower her BP as she refuses to take any BP meds.

Joe February 4, 2011 at 10:21 am

Juilet, thanks for chiming in. As an trained and skilled herbalist I am sure you take a health history of the people you work with before you prescribe any herbs and would not prescribe herbs you feel might interfere with a persons health or medications they take.

I have no problem with a skilled health professional using appropriate amount of herbs to treat a condition naturally if there is a reason and the herbs don’t interfere with other treatments.

When it comes to ZXT, there are people taking it who have never met with an herbalist, physician or any other medical professional. People assume that if its natural, its safe.

People who are using ZXT are overweight and often they are using a variety of medications including blood thinners. Since you said yourself that Hawthorn has a blood thinning effect, its possible that it may “over thin the blood”, which could be disastrous. If hawthorn lowers blood pressure than it might interact with blood pressure medications that people are taking.

Also, with hawthorn (as well as any herb), one size does not fit all. If we don’t know the health of the person, then the amount of hawthorn used may either do nothing or have bad consequences.

China is in many ways, still a 3rd world country. What kind of quality control occurs at the factory that makes zi xiu tang? If there is not good quality control, then too much hawthorn may be used. We have seen the result of poor quality control in toys coming from China that contained lead. Might the same lack of quality control occur in a supplement company that may or may not have been around 2 years ago before zxt hit the US market?

Juliet I think we agree more than we disagree on this issue. I would much rather have you, as a trained herbalist giving someone hawthorn, than a company that mass produces something, whose workers are unskilled, work long hours at a tedious factory-like job and maybe making only $3 a month.

Tray February 6, 2011 at 11:37 pm

This is in response to the woman, Tami,” who mentioned that it does not work for her any longer. I am having exactly the same problem. And it is exactly around the same time: 6 weeks. I dont have any side effects, my appetite is back and I am not losing any more weight. In fact, I gained a couple of pounds. I also stopped taking them for a few days, and it did nothing. I can’t seem to find any information about why it stops working and what to do. I lost 20 pounds the first month and NEED to keep it up. Please, if there is anyone out there that has had a similar experience and beat it, please share what you did. Or, if anyone knows why this happens, please let us know!!

Tray February 6, 2011 at 11:42 pm

Also, wanted to add that I am nowhere near my ideal weight. I still have to lose another 50 pounds to get close to my ideal weight. I’ve already lost 20. I don’t think exercising should make that much of a difference in these pills. I understand that in general, exercise is beneficial and imperative to successful weight loss, but these supplements specifically state no exercise is required.

Lea February 7, 2011 at 3:02 am

The first time I bought ZXT they were fake and I had horrible side effects before I figures out I was taking fakes. I had terrible migraines, so bad that I could not function well. So be VERY careful of buying fakes and definitely do your research first!

After I bought real ZXT I began losing weight the first day, I am not exaggerating. I lost about 15 (yes, 15!!) pounds the first month and then it tapered off to a more healthy 3 – 4 pounds for the next two months. Before ZXT I was taking phentermine and I hated it. Phentermine made me angry all the time and so moody and gave me headaches and heart palpitations. ZXT does none of that to me. I think it helps me lose weight by ridding my body of built up toxins because it makes me have very loose and nasty poop! Gross, I know, but that’s the truth.

I gave some to my sister-in-law and she also lost weight the first day. Now she wants to order ZXT too, along with my mother-in-law. The only thing I would caution is to listen to your body because everyone’s body is unique. I also found out I am allergic to bee pollen (or some other ingredient in ZXT) because it gives me a slight case of hives and a very red itchy rash on my thighs and legs. It also makes me feel like I am slightly wheezing. I am allergic to cats and the symptoms are almost identical to what I experience when I am around cats. However, after taking ZXT for about two months I stopped having the reactions. I decided that the benefit of helping me easily melt the weight off outweighed the allergic reactions.

I had to stop taking ZXT because I had surgery about a week ago. My doctor said I can start taking it again so I am going to order more. AND I have not gained any of the weight back! I have not taken the pills for almost 3 whole weeks. I have had nothing but AMAZING results with ZXT. Also, my doctor told me he has recently heard that bee pollen helps a lot of people with their weight loss goals.

Lea thanks for writing and I am glad zxt has been helping you. I would caution that your difficulty breathing (wheezing you said happened) is a sign of an allergic reaction and it can be serious. If it happens again DO GO TO THE HOSPITAL.

The next time you see your doctor can ask him/her where they saw the bee pollen weight loss evidence. I would like to read it. I have been looking for proof of bee pollen and weight loss and I have never found any evidence.

Tray, in theory exercise should help you use more calories. zxt websites say you dont have to exercise (and you can eat whatever you like) because they are trying to make things easy. Easy is not always best. ZXT websites really should not say you dont have to exercise because they have never tested whether exercise helps zxt work better or not.

The headaches that people who take ZXT often report may be the result of drinking too much water. This is called water intoxication (also called hyponatremia).

Basically too much water dilutes the salts (electrolytes) in the blood. One of the side effects of water intoxication is headaches.

Other signs include difficultly breathing, muscle weakness, confusion, being overly tired, uncontrolled muscle twitching, nausea/vomiting and irritability.

Hyponatremia can kill you. Remember the woman who died while trying to win a radio contest a few years ago? She was drinking so much water that it killed her. it was hyponatremia that killed her.

I wanted to bring this up because the Zi Xiu Tang distributors love to say keep drinking water – how many of them ever mention that you can drink too much water?

Healthy kidneys can only excrete about 1 quart of water per hour. So people who drink much more than this are increasing the risk of water intoxication.

I really must apologize to everybody that this did not occur to me sooner. Some of the ZXT side effects people report could be the result of drinking too much water.

Can anyone recommend a website which sells the REAL pills? I don’t want to purchase fakes!

Joe February 11, 2011 at 2:28 pm

Sabrina, I appreciate your frustration in not wanting to make a mistake. I’d rather not get into adverting zxt websites or specific distributors because that’s a slippery slope.

I don’t want to open up the possibility of zxt distributors posing as “real people” giving info that people can’t totally trust.

They say the real stuff should have a 20 digit anti counterfeit code on the bottle that you can impute into a website so you can look for this if you like. I’m not sure if that method is totally foolproof though.

Does anyone else have any any ideas on how to identify authentic zxt?

Hello Joe,

I just stumbled upon your review. I have been taking the pills for just over a month. Before I tell you what I have experienced let me tell you my situation.

I’m 30, severely obese, I’m 5’8″ and my starting weight was 332lbs on Jan 16, 2011. I was seriously considering weight loss surgery but before doing that thought I would try it on my own one more time. My cousin who was about 20 lbs overweight tried this product and lost all 20lbs in about 3-4 months.

So here is what I experienced:

Week 1 – first few days was jittery and had trouble sleeping. Was slightly less hungry. I was going to the bathroom normally. I have suffered from constipation my whole life. The pain in the top left side of my tummy finally went away. I lost 1 lb that week but was still eating un-healthy. I know the bottle says not to change your diet, but I decided to give that a try….

Week 2
I decided to try weight watchers while using the pill. In the past I had a lot of trouble keeping within my points because I was so hungry all the time. While taking this pill I am able to stay within my points and even eat less than my daily points sometimes. I lost 4 lbs this week.

Week 3
Continued with same as week 2 but added in some exercise, nothing crazy just treadmill for 45 mins. I lost 5 lbs that week.

Week 4
Continued same as week 3, but found I’m not going to the bathroom as often anymore. and also very thirsty. I lost 4 lbs that week

Week 5
Continued same as week 4, still drank lots more water. I was a little constipated last week, but additional water is helping. I lost 3 lbs last week!

This is a total of 17lbs! I know this may sound silly, but I have struggled with my weight since I’m a little girl. I’m not sure if its the pill or the weight watchers or both but this is the first time I’m able to loose weight on my own and not feel starving all the time!

PS – I apologize if this was too graphic in any way, but figured it was better to share my exact experience!

Also Joe,

I read your comment about drinking too much water. In the past I used to only drink soda (I know bad). I have completely cut that out of my diet and drink water and/or crystal light only. I drink around 80-100 oz per day. Is this too much? I was told for my weight I should be drinking around 150 oz?

Joe February 22, 2011 at 5:44 pm

Hi Cheryl,
as for how much water you should drink, its a difficult question to answer. If you dont get thirsty too much, you are probably drinking enough. Some say if your urine looks clear then you are OK too.
Here is an interesting water calculator tool that might help you
http://nutrition.about.com/library/blwatercalculator.htm

If I remember right the average woman gets about 91 oz of fluid a day so you are in that range. I dont think 150 oz would hurt you if you are basically healthy.

I wanted to point out water overload because the zi xiu tang people (most of who probably have no formal education about nutrition or biochemistry) just keep hammering that “drink water” mantra that I wonder if someone might take things to extreme. If you have not had any strange side effects (dizziness, muscle weakness, headache, passing out etc), you are probably ok.

Don’t worry about diet soda either. I’m not one of “those people” who bash diet sodas and coffee. Research proves that any diuretic effect these drinks have is minimal if you are used to caffeine. Diet soda, tea, coffee, the water in fruits and veggies etc all contribute to your daily water intake.

You don’t have to feel ashamed that you drink diet soda. If it really was “poison” as some people say, then I would have died a long time ago ;)

Cheryl, Im glad you stumbled upon my site as well. It sounds like you are making good progress. There are many paths to weight loss and it sounds like you are doing it the smart way by exercising and using weight watchers. zxt may be helping (I’m still not sure how though) but regardless, as long as you are not experiencing any strange side effects from zxt than Im happy that you are losing weight.

Do keep exercising as this will help not only your weight loss but also help you keep your muscle (muscle doesn’t come back when we lose it) . I like weight watchers also because it provides a family to help you stay on target.

I say be happy that you’ve lost 17 pounds and look forward to the next 17! Keep me posted on your progress.

Joe,
i am a 24 y/o military female that had a baby about 10 months ago, i am extremely active (running about 20 miles a week at least) i have a great diet! but i cant lose anymore weight! i hate “cheating” by taking diet pills but i am desperate, i feel like i am doing everything right its just not working keep in mind before i had my baby i was about fit and weighed 130ish… my co-workers started this pill and I’ve seen them slim down right before my eyes!!! So a friend said she would give me a few to try out the first week…and I’ll keep you posted i start tomorrow! starting weight is 151! wish me luck!!!

Joe February 24, 2011 at 8:12 pm

Stephy. Thanks for serving America on top of being a mom! Im sure that can be a challenge. Remember it’s about being healthy not just about losing weight. It sounds like you are in very good shape regardless of what the scale says.

I’m not sure what exactly is in zxt (I have doubts about how truthful the label is). I hope I am wrong but I want to mention this in case you get drug tested in the military. Keep me posted :)

Not to disappoint any of you ladies/men out there. This is my story. I am 22, and a little bit chubby, Height 5.5, weight 150. My mother 5.3, 200 pounds, ordered a sample bottle and started taking pills and lost 15 pounds first month. So we both decided to order more.

So its been 2.5 month and neither of us lost ANY more weight! I love food and my appetite has not changed at all. I am very sad. Mom says the first sample bottle of pills worked and she felt right away but now still hoping to loose more we were taking it for 2.5 month and NOTHING!

I dont understand how it can work and then stop! Pills are not fake, they have that code on the back. Not sure if I should keep my hopes up and keep taking them. Not sure what to do.

Hello, I would like to share my personal experience with ZXT. I began a healthier lifestyle last March and went from 196 to 188 with diet/exercise. My friend told me about ZXT in May of 2010 and I decided to give it a try. From June to October I went from 188 to 168. I did have side effects but loved the fact that I wasn’t hungry. I also worked out 3x per week. I kept the weight off but could not get below 168.

I ran out of pills over the holidays (November & December) and gained about 7 pounds (now 175). Last month, I ordered more and did not notice the same effects as before. They were not fake (I purchased from the same provider as before and typed the anti-counterfeit code online) but something felt different. I did not lose any weight during this month.

I called the woman I purchased them from and she told me that the company took out one of the main ingredients (Senna) and that every batch since January 2011 has been yielding lousy results. Her plan is to sell the ZXT with separate Senna capsules (a laxative). She is sending me the Senna to take with the new bottle, so hopefully that works. I will keep you posted on the progress!

Good article thanks!. I ordered a sample for 12 days. First of all I have Polycystic Ovarian syndrome and Colitis. I eat healthy and exercise regularly and have been able to control my disorders. I had read that the pill supposedly helped your testosterone go up. I sure don’t need that since I already suffer from this problem, but proceeded to give the pill a try. It claimed no exercise was needed, which I didn’t like. The first two days, I was unable to sleep, and I was really upset and mad at the world. I think this was when my testestorone level kicked in. In addition, I was constipated, and really thirsty.

I stopped on day 10. I was being so mean to my boyfriend, and broke up with him. the pills made me into this total bitch. Let’s just say I promised him I would stop taking them. No weight was lost. I’ve seen all these people claiming to lose so much weight with the pills. I’m glad it worked for them. Ill just continue the traditional way and not risk my health. I’ve seen how the hcg drops have become a fad. Messing around with hormones like that should not be good, and of course a 500 calorie diet is going to make you lose weight. That’s insane!

Joe March 2, 2011 at 8:49 am

Thanks Marie. Iil be posting something on Hcg drops soon. as for zxt, Ive never seen any research it increases testosterone. I doubt if it did. I think the caffeine in zxt may have been causing some of your issues. I would do the traditional way also :)
